In such cases the question must be divided into several questions. We cannot ask the respondent "how much do you know and how much do you like XXX". Instead, we first ask how much the respondent knows XXX and then how much the respondent likes XXX (if possible we only present the second question to respondents who specified that they know XXX in the first question).
A similar logic can be applied when we wish to find out the place of residence of students, e.g. when researching attendance at cultural events. We must in fact ask the students three questions - the place of temporary residence, the place of permanent residence and the location of his or her faculty.
